My Adventure

Thu Jan 9, 2014, 7:54 PM
AdventureAn unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity

My adventure may seem small to nothing compared to other 19 year olds, younger teens and young adults, but for me this was something huge.

Many of you know, I created an account called JessAlexandraDesigns. I haven't done much of anything with this account other than watch people, fav, and modify my profile page (which, I have had so much fun doing and I think I've nearly got the look I want too XD.)

I've been researching quite a bit about small businesses and what to do. I wanted to know how to file taxes and everything. (This sounds like a lot of work, but this is just where I'm at.)

So, I found out I needed a DBA (Doing Business as Name) if I didn't want to do business with my real name, which I don't. I also, needed an EIN (Employer Identification Number) if I wanted to create a business bank account. I have been researching a lot this past week about how to obtain a DBA. You have to go to your county's clerk office to file one.

My clerk's office was about 30 miles away and it would take half an hour or more to get there. This morning, I was nervous and I wanted to leave at a certain time but I left about maybe an hour or so after that... I brought along Princess too for the company.

I used my mom's car and her GPS for guidance. Even though I had her GPS I had printed directions from Google Maps. I followed Google Maps directions instead of the GPS. I was so nervous getting there. Most of you probably don't know this, but I have a slight problem with driving. It freaks me out. There are so many cars. I don't like it when two cars are on either side of me. I really can't stand it when a car is behind me and wants me to go faster. All the car has to do is go around, but it doesn't... Anyways, driving there was a challenge because I wasn't too familiar with where I was.

When I finally arrived at the County Clerk's Office, I had to put my purse and notepad in a bucket. I wasn't prepared to take off my belt and put that in the bucket too. I then went through the metal detector without a problem and was given my things back. I went to the restroom to put back on my belt. I realized I had no idea where the stinking clerk's office was. I sat on a bench and looked on their website to see if there was a map of the building because there was no map out and about.

I'm pretty shy in real life. If I don't know you I usually won't be the one to initiate a conversation. I find it funny that my job as a cashier is to talk with people and check out their groceries. I suppose it's good practice for social interaction. LOL

I moved to another bench, passing some office with people inside staring at me. I certainly wasn't going in there to ask for help. I saw a girl get in the elevator and I knew that court rooms were up there but there was nobody downstairs that I felt comfortable talking with. I went inside the elevator glad to be alone for a split second to regain my confidence. I found a sheriff or constable sitting at a small table texting. Completely oblivious to the world, as I described him to my mom. I said hello and asked him, "Where might I file a DBA?"

"What is that?" He asked.

"Ummm..." I handed him the file. He told me to go back downstairs to the office with people... (ugh, I moaned inside) I thanked him for his time, but I really didn't want to go back down there.

Long story short, I found the office. Had passed in on the way to the restroom. XD

The ladies in there were quite nice. It happened to be $25 to file. I was so happy that I did this by myself and that I was through with that building and everything. Little did I know I wasn't home yet and I hadn't printed off directions back home.

I made it back home about an hour or so later because I got lost and stopped by at an Albertson's to find a seasoning that Walmart had discontinued. Yes, I got lost with the GPS all because I thought I knew where I was so I wouldn't need it anymore, but as it turned out I didn't, so I had to start listening to it again. :XD:

I basically slept and lounged about the rest of the day until my mom came home, then we spent time together.

Thanks for reading my long story about my adventure. I know it's not super challenging or anything for most, but it was a big step up for me.

God bless you in all you do.

ha ha thanks! I'm obsessed with journal skins. I hope to make my own ONE DAY...seems like forever though.

I'm glad you thought so. I'm really happy everything worked out too. Now, I just need to set up my business bank account when I get a chance. C:

Oh, a question about DBAs. If I wanted to publish a book under an alias, would I need a DBA?

Holy crap you really have collected some wonderful journal skins there. I doubt I'll ever use any of them because I've found my one true love (lol) but I'll keep that in mind for future reference aha

 You crack me up. Literally.

Yes, I know. I really want to be able to make mine. I'm working on that over at my other account, but I haven't devoted much time to it yet. JessAlexandraDesigns

I think your other account is looking absolutely fantastic! I love the colors you chose. It's really simple but very appealing to the eye.

Awww thank you. It's really fallen flat. I'm sad about it. But I'll just either leave it or make it a priority again. C:

I get what you mean. I have so many kinds of little projects I have completely neglected.
